  1. Two discs,76 minutes each approximately. The sound is very good-the instruments are clean and well defined,with the vocals out front slightly in the mix. The booklet is very informative-setting the scene both in Britain and Jamaica in the 70's,when hard times hit both countries/5(27).

  3. This is one of those albums that winds up on just about every list of essential reggae recordings, and with good reason. Like Max Romeo's War Ina Babylon (which is equally essential, and can be considered a companion to this one), it was recorded under the auspices of Lee "Scratch" Perry at his legendary Black Ark studio, and is saturated with Perry's trademark dense, murky sound.

  6. One listen to Murvin's "Police and Thieves" was all it took to set the producer immediately to work on the rhythm. Building it around Boris Gardiner's vibrating bass line, Sly Dunbar's metronomic beats, and Ernest Ranglin's incendiary guitar riff, the song quickly took shape, abetted by Keith Sterling's keyboards and Joe Cooper's echoing organ.
