  1. This is a fabulous performance of Mahler's 7th Symphony by Pierre Boulez with the Cleveland Orchestra recorded in The sound is excellent and the performance is faultless. the interpretation is spot-on for what is often called a problem Symphony. Not in Boulez' hands! I really enjoyed this CD and I am sure you will too/5(42).
  2. The Symphony No. 7, nicknamed "The Song of the Night," is widely regarded as the most enigmatic of Mahler's cycle and the most difficult to coherently interpret as a symphonic structure, even by this composer's extraordinary standards. The movements are undeniably Mahlerian in their abrupt mood swings and ironic twists, and each offers a wealth of fantastic ideas and brilliant orchestration 5/
  3. Mahler's 7th is my favorite Mahler. The moodiness that pervades the symphony is astonishing in melodic expressions. Michael Tilson Thomas has two versions, an earlier one in with the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), and this later cycle with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra (SFSO). Both are fine, but, overall, I prefer the SFSO version/5(24).

  5. Symphony No. 7 by Gustav Mahler was written in –05, with repeated revisions to the scoring. It is sometimes referred to by the title Song of the Night (German: Lied der Nacht), which Mahler never knew (and certainly would be unlikely to have sanctioned). Although the symphony is often described as being in the key of E minor, its tonal scheme is more panathernufemrie.adgeupormanirehoutohoderedi.coed: – Maiernigg.
  6. Without a doubt, this Pierre Boulez’s Mahler cycle – with two of the symphony recordings receiving Grammy Awards (Nos. 3 and 9). The complete cycle of symphonies and songs is now presented for the first time in a single set of 14 CD at budget price. This is a non-limited edition.
